A day in the park…

I love florida weather, especially right around this time when it gets slightly cooler. Painting outside is my preference for so many reasons. This past Sunday I found myself working in the park with all of my current favorite things. Here are some photos of my day and my lastest work in progress, a 48X60″ which will most likely be shown at one of my shows this fall.

Osceola & Realizations

September is one of my favorite months and I get excited year after year at this time. Why you ask, well, because  my art shows are about to begin again. I paint alone mainly and aside from the interaction on social media and occasional studio visits, my art does not see the light of  day too much. That being said, I really look forward to these exhibits, not only to find them new and loving homes but to see the reaction and hear the stories as the art relates to you.  I love hearing friends/collectors/art-lovers say that they saw it online, but they had no idea…that it was so textured, bright, huge, sad, purple, etc. As you may already know, my art show schedule is planned almost a year out so at this point all the shows are booked and I’m ready to go. This fall season I had been particularly excited because I was asked to be the poster artist for 2 shows. Well, last week, I received an email from the art director of another show I was already participating in asking if I would be the poster artist for a third show. How many times can I say excited in one email. I’m not sure, but that was the last time I’ll use it in this post. The art they chose is the mixed media piece shown below, “Realizations”.  I originally titled this piece “realizations & journeying” without even realizing the reference to one of my earlier pieces….”the Journey”…. so I shortened it.  As always, I had things going on here but would rather you see what you see and feel what you feel. Know what I mean?

5 Benefits to owning original art

1. Art makes you happy! Studies have shown that being around art can improve your overall health & happiness. Try sitting in a room all day with white walls and nothing on them. Then, try sitting in the same room with art displayed. It’s true.

2. You are supporting the arts and all things handmade. More often than not, in today’s world, so much of the things we have are made from machines. I love something tangible that I can see and feel and know that someone else made somewhere, sometime, maybe a long time ago, and maybe yesterday. It’s like, the good side of materialism. It’s just so special and one of a kind. Little nuances in hand-made items that can never be re-created. I love that.

Love, Period

3. Your room will thank you (and your guests). Art & Design go together. Flip through any interior design catalogue or google search and there is almost always art in the room. It’s an integral design element. A space can be totally transformed by art alone. Sometimes, the painting can be the whole starting point of design, creating exactly the mood and energy that you want to fill your space. As an artist, I personally move the work I own from other artists around my home and it’s amazing how art can really make you feel a certain way.

4. It’s a good investment. Pieces of original art increase in value over time (and you can appreciate in other ways every day)

5. It inspires you and others! Makes you more conscientious and often helps you to be more creative in more ways than one.

I’m sure there are many others but these are my top 5. Could you imagine life without art? Also, if there are any that I missed I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Love in the City.

Love in the City.

I am currently working an on-going cityscape series …. been painting and creating this for about 2 years now. One of the ways that I work towards this is painting these little 8X10″ flat canvas panels. Not only are they small, but easily portable, and storable. I can lay them all out, and draw ideas and colors from each of them as I begin and work on my larger pieces that are the finished result of all of these little guys, some painted in the studio and some painted en plein air. I find cities very interesting in that they are all so different, and the energy is never the same, yet has a common element. I painted this painting one night after a few of us girls and I had a night picnic watching the skies and reflections change right before us….
