Mixed Media

This particular piece has been a work in progress for quite some time. I've been laying down paint for over a year on this canvas, just waiting for something to evolve and appear to me. After many layers of paint, there was quite a bit of intrigue for me as an artist letting some of those layers peek thru. The top layer of this painting was all palette knife and a lot of use from the good ole' hands. I used different types of polymers, and acrylic mediums very liberally here.

There is place when you lose your self and you find your self. There is a place that is so inherently crazy. Sometimes you are there. Sometimes someone else is there. And sometimes you swim in the craziness together, but it works. All these little nuances blend and overlap and at the end is a beautiful life or a layered vision of a life.

If you've ever been snorkeling in the keys then you will feel the essence of this painting. I to this day, cannot think of a more beautiful place than the beautiful blue clear waters surrounding the florida keys. Snorkeling down there when I was younger, my first time was almost surreal. It was just soooooooo beautiful. I hope that this piece captures that feeling.

This piece is a 24X36 painting of a tree with leaves of actual jeans. A place I visit in my dreams and I wanted to paint it for the rest of the world. I titled this "Ethereal Whisper" as a combination of two other paintings I have. One is called "Ethreal Glow" and one is "Celestial Whisper"...

This painting is 1 out of 5 in my first set of a mixed media series I started. Using just a palette knife almost exclusively gave me a freedom with the paint where the horizon ended in the sky began just blended together. I started this particular piece with drawing the outline of running horses. This was just a base for what was about to take form on the painting. As it turns out, you can slightly make out the shape of a back end of the last horse towards the left of the painting. The winds blow, we evolve, and sometimes there is a message from the past, or a glimpse into another time.

This piece is one of five in my mixed media series created mainly with a palette knife. I used different mediums to create texture and depth. Every piece is an extension of the previous. This painting was created using acrylics, crayons, and other mediums. As you can see, a lady is seen in the middle of the painting flowing into the earth (or rising from it). Longboat Key is probably my favorite place in the world. There is really no other place I'd rather be. Whenever I come home from LongBoat I usually head straight to the studio as I'm inspired and always get new ideas from this beautiful place. Of course, these are not typical Long boat key beach paintings of course. The red circle represents the sun, and the turquoise represents the ocean and sky which just blends together.The green are the sea grasses that grow in front of it all.
